Tavern Champs & TOC
Hey everyone,
Couple of things!
1) Be sure to check with your bar to see if there are any changes in your Championship schedules. With so much snow this winter, many bars are still trying to make up games and moving their championships around
2) TOC Invites - Some of you may have accidentally received an TOC invite from the Fall 2009 Season. My apology, I clicked on the wrong season when activating this function.
Please stay on the look out for your correct invitation!
Thanks so much and good luck to everyone!
Mike

WTP Online - PLEASE READ
Hello everyone, As you probably know, a few months ago we began working with the All In club as a way to provide our players with an online poker option. Although we were diligent in choosing this partner, we have been less than satisfied with their product and service and have decided to part ways.
Thank you for your understanding and please know that we are working hard on finding a replacement.
Best regards, Mike Matsinger

No Loitering Question
Good morning everyone,
Wanted to address a question that was asked the other day.
In many states, businesses (of any type) have the ability to post a no loitering sign.
This basically means that their establishment is for customers only. (think of a sign in a gas station that says "Our bathrooms are for paying customers only".
I want to clarify this because while we do not allow bars to give chips for purchases, we do not have an issue with a bar that has a No Loitering Policy provided it follows the local laws.
We do not provide legal advice...so it is up to each establishment in each County/State to work under their local laws.
Thanks and hope that clears up any confusion. If you have any more questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to e-mail me at MikeM@WorldTavernPoker.com
best,
Mike & The WTP Team

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Hello WTP Poker Family!
2009 has come to an end and I hope, like me, you have all had an incredible year!
It is hard to believe that World Tavern Poker has now been around for 5 years. What started out as an idea at a bar has grown into the largest poker league in the country, and more importantly THE LARGEST POKER FAMILY IN THE COUNTRY.
? Our team started with 2 people and has grown into 8 team members plus 3 franchise groups.
? What started with 13 bars (the original 13) has now grown into more than 300 in 26 states.
? What started with a few hundred players has grown to over 110,000 registered players.
? What started with 1 seat a year to the World Series of Poker has grown into 26 (or more).
And we couldn’t have done it without each and every one of you!
To all of our bar owners, THANK-YOU!
To all of our Tournament Directors, THANK-YOU!
To all of our Players, THANK-YOU!
Because it is your continued support that makes this such a wonderful league.
AND WE ARE NOT DONE YET!
This year we are committed to making World Tavern Poker Bigger, Better and Badder than ever before!
With an enhanced website, more local representation, more prizes, a new TD training program, new promotions, more charitable events and so much more!
BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We need your ideas. We need to know what it is that you love about World Tavern Poker, and what you would like to see changed!
So please send me an e-mail to MikeM@WorldTavernPoker.com with the subject line “MY IDEAS” and tell me what you would like to see in 2010.
And above all, from the entire team here a World Tavern Entertainment, we would like to wish each and everyone of you the happiest New Year ever!
CHEERS TO A WONDERFUL 2010
Best wishes,
Mike, Nancy, Stephen, Ben, Kathy, Hollie, Dave, Peter, Yolanda, G, Matt, Marie, Dick, Charlotte, Angela, Patrick and everyone here at World Tavern Entertainment!

Tag Team Poker Week!
TAG TEAM POKER
Overview Tag Team Poker is designed to offer a change of pace in a very fun and exciting format. We ran this last year and it was a great time! Keep in mind this might be the first time your TD will be running this so please work with them.
Remember, this format is optional for the bar for the week between Christmas and New Years!
Ok, here is how it works…
? Each player chooses a partner (or you will match up singles).
? Both team mates are playing at the same time at different tables.
? When each team checks in, they will receive 2 of the same suited cards. This will designate which “group” they are in.
? Throughout the tournament the TD will be announcing “the switch”, which will require the team mates to switch seats with each other.
? If one “team mate” gets knocked out, their seat is eliminated from that table, however their “partner” keeps playing. If it is announced for that team to “switch” then the player on the “rail” (knocked out) takes their partner’s place at the table.
? The Top 10 teams (20 players) receive points. The player that was knocked out first receives the lower of the 2 spots.
THE STRUCTURE ? Starting Chips: 10,000 per player (20,000/team) ? Seating: Random (partners cannot sit at the same table) ? Blinds: 30 Minute Blinds ? Standard Blind Structure
SIGNING IN ? One player from each team checks in with the names of both players ? Each Team receives 2 of the same Suited Cards ? If a player does not have a team mate, we will match them with another “single” ? Team Mates are assigned a table (team mates cannot sit at the same table)
THE PLAY
? Play begins with all players in their seats.
? Every 5-8 minutes the Tournament Director will call out a “suit” to switch seats. For example, “Everyone with a Diamond please switch with your partner”
? They must stop play immediately (even if they are in the middle of a hand) and switch with their partner.
? They cannot talk to each other during the switch! This is important to keep an eye on! If players are talking, you can give one warning. After that, it is at the Tournament Director’s discretion to eliminate a team for cheating.
? Throughout the night, the Tournament Director can also call out “alternate” reasons to switch. For example, “If you are wearing a red shirt, please switch with your partner”. Below is a list of ideas to use for alternative switching.
? If a player gets knocked out, they head to the “rail” (off to the side). They cannot sit behind their partner and watch. If their “color” is called to switch, the player on the “rail” comes in and takes their partners seat.
? Once you get down to 6 Teams Left, each team will combine their chip stacks and move to the “Final Table” where they will get 1 seat at the table. As you announce “the switch”, the player on the “rail” (not playing) comes in and takes the seat.
THE POINTS ? Top 20 still receive points ? When a team goes out, they receive the next two “positions” on the sign out sheet ? The player who was knocked out first receives the lower of the 2 positions. ? The normal point system applies based on the total number of players, not number of teams.

Kathy Makes Final Table!
Our very own Kathy Kennedy not only cashed in the World Series of Poker Women's event this past Saturday...she made the FINAL TABLE! Great job Kathy!!!
9:34am - Saturday
Got a call late last night...Russ Raynor got knocked out 65th and John Owens 51st...GREAT JOB! But we aren't done yet...We have 4 WTPers playing in the Lady's Tournament today...Including our very own Kathy Kennedy who just won the ladie's event in Las Vegas last month! GO GET EM LADIES!
9:38pm - Friday And then there were 2. WTP represented well today in a field of 356 players, but unfortunately only 2 are left. Russ Raynor who has been playing with limited chips all day has been patient and playing tough...John Owens from Raleigh has been up and down and is sitting on an avg stack.
Hang tough guys and thank-you to all of our players who played today!
3:18pm - Friday Hey everyone, sorry for the delay but I have been having trouble getting an internet connection.
Cards were in the air at 11:00am and we had 16 World Tavern Poker players out of 354 total. The odds are good we are going to be cashing!
Mike Filipelli and Amy Huber both won some big pots early and were quickly the leaders at their table but now look like the each have about average stacks.
Bradley Wood is hanging tough and looks to have about 30k in chips right now (well above the average)
Dave Tidabeck was pretty low and then doubled up to give him his starting stack back.
Kevin Jarrett and Al Baldwin are at the same table. Kevin says there is a bully at his table and every time Kevin gets involved this guys is coming over the top and scaring everyone away. Al is playing well and looks to have about 30k in chips.
Unfortunately our first player out was Rob Janney out of NJ/PA. He lost a big hand very early and he said he had been waiting for cards but they just weren't coming. He said he has never seen 6 2 so many times.
Russ Raynor and Gary Fields are seated next to each other. Gary has an above average stack...Russ took a few big hits early but has been hanging tough.
Everyone else looks to have about average stacks and playing very patient. I'll try to have another update in a few hours if I don't run into more wireless internet issues.
thanks!
John Owens has been up and down all day but jus won a nice size pot with pocket kings (the 3rd time today he's had them)
13 World Tavern Poker players will be competing in the $1,000 World Series of Poker Circuit event this Friday at Harrah’s in Atlantic City and we are going to kick ass and take names!
All of these players made the final table at a World Tavern Poker National Championship and won their seat into this event.
We will be updating this page throughout the day on Friday and Saturday with updates on how well everyone is doing!
And the players are….
Al Baldwin Bushkill, PA Paul Chew Raleigh, NC Gary Fields Benedict, MD Mike “Amadeus” Fillipelli Dover, PA Amy Huber York, PA Robert Janney Burlington, NJ Kevin Jarrett Ridgeway, VA Michael Miller Harrisburg, PA Tom Nail Apex, NC Kent Seeley Bishopville, MD Dave Tidaback East Stroudsburg, PA Dale Tully Spotswood, NJ William Wood Sandy Ridge, NC
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!
